Why does my puppy go inside right after coming back from outside?
Most common reasons: not enough time outside, distractions outside meant the puppy didn't actually fully empty, or the yard isn't yet a strong association for elimination. We troubleshoot these one at a time. Usually the fix is more time at the potty spot before coming inside.
Are punishment-based methods effective for accidents?
No, and they often make things worse. Rubbing a puppy's nose in an accident or scolding them after the fact teaches them to fear elimination in your presence, which leads to hiding to potty (in another room, behind the couch). We don't use punishment for accidents. Reward heavily outside, manage supervision better inside, and accidents fade.
